JUNE 22 “THIS WEEK IN THE MUSIC OF NONVIOLENT RESISTANCE”

The Afro-Peruvian-American rapper “Immortal Technique,” Felipe Coronel, released his third ablum, “The 3rd World” this week in 2008.

Immortal Technique has used rap music to comment on numerous social and political issues, and has also been a nonviolent activist in Afghanistan.

For instance, Immortal Technique’s second abum, “Revolutionary Vol. 2,” criticized the Bush administration, and explored poverty, censorship, 9/11, racism, and class struggle. In Afghanistan, Immortal Technique helped found an orphanage which now houses over 200 children without any corporate funding.

His albums have sold hundreds of thousands of copies.
