MAY 25 “THIS WEEK IN THE MUSIC OF NONVIOLENT RESISTANCE”

This week in 1977 (May 28), Nuno Santos, stage name “Chullage,” was born. Santos is a Portuguese musician who uses his music as a form of protest against the racial discrimination he and others face. Santos is from the small island of Cape Verdes. Around half of Cape Verdeans living in Portugal are undocumented and face daily discrimination because of their status.

Santos aims to attack these injustices through his music.
