MARCH 30 “THIS WEEK IN THE MUSIC OF NONVIOLENT RESISTANCE”

On April 1, 2007, the underground Iranian band “Kiosk” released its second album entitled Amor de la Velocidad (Eshghe Sor’at). The band uses music to criticize state censorship–censorship that is so severe that the band had to relocate to Canada and the United States to avoid persecution.

According to its website, the band has achieved popular and critical acclaim such that “the title track music video for Eshgh-e Sorat, directed by Ahmad Kiarostami, became one of the most-viewed clip on youtube the week of its release,” and “with the success of their sophomore album, Kiosk embarked on their first world tour, spanning from Bonn, Germany to Sydney, Australia.”
