DECEMBER 1 “THIS WEEK IN THE MUSIC OF NONVIOLENT RESISTANCE”

This week in 2005, Bolivian dancers converged on the El Prado plaza in La Paz, Bolivia. The dancers numbered 3,000 and danced for more than two hours straight in support of cultural preservation.

The dancers were promoting the traditional Bolivian dance, Los Caporales, an attempt to use music as a form of cultural preservation.

Five years later, Bolivians organized an even larger celebration of Los Caporales, when more than 20,000 dancers worldwide joined in.
