JULY 27 “THIS WEEK IN THE MUSIC OF NONVIOLENT RESISTANCE”

On July 30, 2011, DAM, a Palestinian hip-hop group, started a fundraising campaign for its second album, “A Letter from the Cell.”

DAM came to fame in the early 2000s when it responded to a bombing in Tel Aviv. The bombing led to many people blaming Palestinian terrorists. In response, DAM wrote and created a song called “Who’s the Terrorist?” The song protests the Israeli occupation of Palestine. It generated media buzz and was featured in a French magazine.

The group has also been featured in the 2008 documentary Slingshot Hip Hop.
